“I didn’t come here for, like, save face. I came here to be honest, “says Alexis Haines (née Neiers). the first trailer for Netflix The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Robbery. Sitting in a chair with her arms crossed in her lap, the star of the cult reality show Wild enough she looks demure and serious as she talks to the camera. This is clearly not the same wild party girl we’ve seen whimpering to Nancy Jo Sales on her “brown Bebe kitten heels” over a decade ago. No, this means Alexis businessand now she is ready to tell the truth about what happened so many years ago.
A three-episode docuseries directed by Life and death rowMiles Blayden-Ryall, The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Robbery is the latest project to tackle the salacious saga of owner thefts: first, there was the short E! series Wild enough, who followed Alexis as she battled the legal system after she was arrested on charges of theft. Then there was The Bling Ring, Sofia Coppola’s A24 hit dramatizing burglary in an incredibly hilarious way. (“Let’s go to Paris’. I want to rob”Says Emma Watson in one of the film’s most memorable lines.)
But Hollywood shot it is neither a series of exploitative realities nor a star-studded reenactment. Instead, the series is more of an investigative re-examination, promising to “tell the true story behind the Hollywood Hills home invasions that gripped the nation,” according to a plot synopsis. “A caveat to today’s teens, the docuseries shows what can happen when a culture obsessed with fame and stardom meets the rise of social media and gets out of control.”
To celebrate the occasion, Netflix not only recruited original Bling Ring member Alexis Neiers to talk about his experience, but also his fiercely protective mother Andrea Arlington and colleague Nick Norgo (nee Prugo), who in the trailer says he had was consulted at all, he would have chosen “a super young, perhaps, like Tom Cruise” to play him The Bling Ring.
But it’s not that kind of one-sided, you might ask, since doing a theft docuseries and only involving thieves would, in fact, be like that. Good, Hollywood shot is already a step ahead of you: The hillsAlso included is Audrina Patridge, one of the unfortunate victims of the Bling Ring. “It was like they went shopping in my closet,” she says in the trailer. Later, she admits: “After my house was broken into, I was the most terrified I’ve ever had in my entire life.” (Speaking of the “most terrified I’ve ever seen,” there’s also an appearance of Perez Hilton as a talking head. So … yes.)
As for how the original Bling Ring members feel about their role in everything now, it’s hard to say completely. Alexis, for example, refutes the narrative that has been painted about her, especially through The Bling Ring. “They made myself The leader of the Bling Ring, which is absolutely not based on any reality, “he says. Nick, in his case, seems interested at least in contextualizing his choices.” I’ve always been the kind of person who did everything I needed to achieve that I wanted to, “he says at one point.” But I never thought in my wildest dreams that it would reach the level of crime it has. “
