2022 was a turbulent year for Netflix, a year in which the streaming giant’s executives were forced to make decisions they thought they should never have made.

For years, Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Reed Hastings have rejected the prospect of joining Hulu, Peacock and HBO Max by allowing advertisers on their platform in exchange for offering subscribers a cheaper subscription rate. But things moved fast.
