Charlie Cox says the upcoming Disney + Daredevil: Born Again series will be something completely new, not a season 4 for Netflix’s Daredevil.
Charlie Cox described the upcoming Daredevil: Born again series like “a completely new thingThe new series is expected to premiere on Disney + in the spring of 2024 and will star Cox as Matt Murdock. Daredevil: Born again it will be part of Phase 5 of the MCU and will be the 27th MCU television series to date.
Cox first appeared as Murdock in the television series Recklesspremiered exclusively on Netflix in 2015. The series ran for 3 seasons and Cox also played Daredevil in the Netflix miniseries The defenders in 2017. While Reckless was canceled by Netflix in 2018, it was rumored that the series could continue on Disney +, as the streaming service launched in November 2019. In May 2022 it was confirmed that a Reckless The TV series was in development for Disney + and Cox would reprise his starring role alongside Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk. Since the announcement, there has been a debate over whether the new series would act like a season 4 for Recklessor if it would be a full reboot.
In an interview with Extra
“It’s a season 1, it’s not a season 4, so it’s a whole new thing. Which I think is the way to go. If you’re going to do it again, do it differently.”
While the initial of Cox Reckless the series took on the darkest tone of all Netflix Marvel series, including Jessica Jones And The Punisher, this Disney + series offers the opportunity to see the lighter side of Cox’s Murdock as seen in recent MCU projects. Cox made a brief Daredevil cameo Spider-Man: There is no way to go homeand was seen giving Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) a little legal advice in the midseason trailer for She-Hulk. Daredevil will also appear in the next Marvel series Echoand the upcoming Spider-Man animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
Given that Netflix’s Marvel series was much darker tonally than the rest of the MCU, it’s fitting that Daredevil is reborn to fit in with the rest of the Marvel projects. While it’s too early to know exactly what to expect from the new Daredevil series, Cox’s recent appearances in MCU projects suggest that the series will be much more lighthearted than the Netflix iteration. It’s also likely that this means the MCU can choose what, if nothing more than Cox’s Matt Murdock and D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, they want to bring into their canon from the previous series. Whatever they choose, with Cox’s seal of approval on the approach Daredevil: Born againfans are looking forward to seeing a whole new side of Matt Murdock in the coming years.
